New Membership Model

New Membership Model

Our local Penn State Chapter of Greater Binghamton Inc. is an affiliated organization of the Penn State Alumni Association (PSAA) via a charter issued in 1982 by the PSAA.  We are a not-for-profit alumni educational organization incorporated in 1985 in the state of New York.  In our geographical area, we presently include 236 members consisting of Penn State Alumni, family, and friends.  Of those 236 members, 145 or (61%) of our members hold lifetime memberships within the Chapter.

The PSAA has provided the following announcement of the new membership fee structure:

—————–

“Starting in July 2022, local chapters and the Alumni Association will be moving to a single dues approach for membership. This means less confusion for alumni and friends about which group they have joined because when you join the Alumni Association, you will automatically become a member of your local chapter. If you travel regularly or spend your year in two different areas, you will have the opportunity to receive information from multiple local chapters without paying additional dues.

The new model will also allow us to expand the membership benefits that we are able to offer. Finally, since our chapter will no longer have to spend time and energy collecting dues, we will be able to focus more time on engaging alumni and friends in our area.”

At the bottom of this page are some Resource Documents intended to help answer initial questions that members, alumni, and friends may have.

We encourage you to take some time to review this correspondence to assist in understanding this process.  Our local chapter board will be working with the staff of the PSAA to optimize the migration to the new membership model.

This includes, among others, several administrative details such as:

  • How the lifetime membership structure in our chapter may be affected
  • Integrating the enhanced communication support from the PSAA
  • Modifying our corporate bylaws
  • Transitioning the chapter fiscal year to coincide with the PSAA

It is the Chapter Board’s expectation that the new membership model will not result in a noticeable change in the historic offerings and activities of our local chapter.  The board will share the details of this one membership model, as they become known, to better explain how it may affect our local chapter and members.   We welcome members to contact us at     [email protected]    with questions and suggestions.
